Laura Barnes
Owner - Manager - Head Trainer
Laura Barnes has been passionate about horses since she was seven years old. Her equestrian journey began in Atlanta under the guidance of Annaliese Vogt-Harber at Vogt Riding Academy. After three years of dedicated lessons, she became a working student, where she learned to manage and organize the lesson program.
By the age of 11, Laura was not only assisting with new lesson horses but also riding Grand Prix horses, which ignited her ambition to pursue upper-level dressage. Upon graduating High School, Laura’s graduation gift was her Friesian gelding, Jeremiah, who has been her steadfast companion since he was seven months old. Despite skepticism from others about acquiring a young horse, Laura was eager to grow alongside him and deepen her understanding of training young horses.
Following high school and college Laura managed Applewood Farm in Alpharetta, GA, where she had the privilege of working with esteemed trainers from Atlanta Dressage. Her journey led her to High Valley Hanoverians as an assistant young horse trainer after being introduced to Ashley Marascalco.
In 2013, Laura and Jeremiah became PATH certified as both horse and instructor. Laura then purchased her second horse—a Friesian stallion—also at seven months old.
Most recently, Laura rode in Canton, GA, managing multiple horses from training level to Grand Prix. In May of 2024, she returned to South Georgia to care for her family and now operates a 24-stall facility on 14.5 acres. She is proud to be sponsored by Devacoux and Seminole.
At the barn, Laura prioritizes the well-being of each horse with a tailored training program that includes five days of work per week and time spent outside the arena to keep their experiences enriching and enjoyable. She also has a dedicated team of farriers, vets, and bodywork specialists who ensure the horses receive the best care possible.
